Sanjay Raut Sentenced: A Mumbai court has sentenced Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut to 15 days imprisonment in a defamation case. A Mumbai court has sentenced Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut to 15 days imprisonment in a defamation case filed by Medha Kirit Somaiya, wife of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya. Also, a fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed.
Somaiya runs an NGO
Raut has been convicted in a defamation case under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Medha Somaiya is a professor of organic chemistry at Ruia College in Mumbai. Along with this, she also runs a non-governmental voluntary organization. Medha Somaiya had filed a defamation complaint through her advocate Vivekanand Gupta. Medha Somaiya had said in the complaint that Sanjay Raut has made baseless and reputation-damaging allegations against me and my husband.
Raut had alleged 100-cr scam
Medha Somaiya had demanded action against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut. Sanjay Raut had claimed that Medha Somaiya's NGO Yuva has committed a toilet scam of Rs 100 crore. Raut has been convicted of defamation under section 500 of IPC. Medha Somaiya had built toilets for the economically weaker sections in Mira Bhayander area of Mumbai. Sanjay Raut had alleged large-scale corruption in the construction of these toilets.
