Pakistan: Police Open Fire on Imran Khan Supporters During Islamabad Rally; Fawad Chaudhry Claims Many Killed


Pakistan: On Sunday, police opened fire on supporters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during a rally in Islamabad organized by his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to demand the release of their jailed leader. PTI shared footage of the incident on social media.


Chaos Erupts as Routes to Islamabad Are Closed


The situation escalated into a massive stampede following the police firing, creating an atmosphere of chaos and increasing the potential for violence. Consequently, all routes to Islamabad have been closed.


Mny killed: Fawad Chaudhry


PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry reported multiple fatalities among supporters due to the police action, asserting that martial law-like conditions have emerged in Pakistan. He accused the police of opening fire on rally attendees.


Police deploy tear gas


In addition to gunfire, police deployed tear gas against the crowd. The Deputy Police Commissioner issued an ultimatum to PTI supporters, demanding an immediate end to the rally. Reports indicate that Islamabad's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) was also injured during the confrontation.


Supporters Respond with Violence


In response to the police actions, Imran Khan's supporters retaliated by throwing stones, resulting in injuries to eight police officers. The rally aimed to pressure the government for Khan's release from jail.


Continue to fight for Haqiqi Azadi: Imran


From jail, Imran Khan declared his willingness to spend his life incarcerated rather than compromise his fight for "Haqiqi Azadi" (real freedom). He emphasized his commitment to the struggle for true freedom during a recent court hearing.


400 Days in Jail


Imran Khan has now completed 400 days in jail, having been arrested on August 5 of the previous year following a conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case. Senior PTI leader Asghar Gujjar remarked that despite the ruling party's efforts, Khan's resolve for freedom remains unbroken, with widespread support from the nation.
