Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached President Biden's hometown Delaware on Saturday on the first day of his US visit. Here he joined US President Joe Biden, Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida in the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) Summit at 1:30 am (Indian time).
We support a rule-based international order: PM
During the summit, PM Modi said: This meeting is taking place at a time when the world is surrounded by conflicts. In such a situation, it is important for the Quad to move together. We are not against anyone. We support a rule-based international order, regional integrity and peaceful resolution of all issues.
Quad nations issue joint statement
In the joint statement issued by the Quad nations, serious concern was expressed about the situation in the East and South China Sea. The dangerous use of coast guard and military ships was condemned. Disputes related to maritime boundaries have been asked to be resolved under the rules of UNCLOS.
North Korea's ballistic missile program was condemned. North Korea has been asked to stop its nuclear program and return to the negotiating table. Emphasis was also laid on eliminating nuclear weapons from the Korean peninsula.
In the joint statement, concern was also expressed about the Russia-Ukraine war. Under international rules, a solution has been sought keeping in mind sovereignty and territorial integrity.
All forms of terrorism have been condemned. Cross-border terrorism, Mumbai's 26/11 attacks, Pathankot terror attack and 9/11 terror attacks were also mentioned.
Quad will remain even after US election: Biden
After the meeting, in the photoshoot of Quad leaders, Biden was asked a question about the existence of the organization after the US elections. On this, Biden put his hand on PM Modi's shoulder and said that the Quad will remain even after the election.
India to provide 4 crore vaccines for cervical cancer
After the Quad Summit, the four leaders participated in the Cancer Moonshot program. Here PM Modi announced to provide 4 crore vaccines for cervical cancer free of cost to Indo-Pacific countries. Before the summit, PM Modi met President Biden at his residence in Delaware. Biden welcomed Modi with a hug.
The Quad Cancer Moonshot will serve to strengthen the overall cancer care ecosystem in the Indo-Pacific by improving health infrastructure, expanding research collaborations, building data systems, and providing greater support for cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and care.
After this, a bilateral meeting took place between the two. During this, Biden supported India's permanent seat in the UNSC. PM Modi also held bilateral talks with the Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia.
