How does monkeypox spread?
Monkeypox spreads through close contact with an infected person. This includes sexual and skin-to-skin contact and close contact with an infected person.
The virus can enter the body through broken skin, which can lead to the eyes, respiratory tract, nose or mouth.
Monkeypox can also be spread by touching objects that have been used by an infected person, such as bedding, clothing and towels.
In DR Congo, the majority of monkeypox outbreaks are due to sexual contact, but it has been found in other communities too.
