UP News: Five people died and 24 others were injured when a three-storey building collapsed in the Transport Nagar area here on Saturday evening, officials said.
As per information provided by the office of the UP Relief Commissioner, the injured have been rushed to Lok Bandhu Hospital in the state capital.
Three of those killed have been identified as one Pankaj Tiwari (40),Dheeraj Gupta (48) and Arun Sonkar (28).
Reports indicate that several people may be trapped beneath the debris, and a nearby parked truck has also been affected.
Currently, the exact number of people buried under the rubble is unknown, but there are concerns that many may be trapped.
After getting information about the building collapse, District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar reached the accident site. So far 13 people have been pulled out from the debris of the building in this accident.
Emergency response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF have arrived to assist in the rescue efforts. Meanwhile, several nearby vehicles, including bikes, have sustained damage due to the building's collapse. The injured are receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
According to media reports, the collapsed building was three stories tall and was undergoing work in its basement at the time of the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse while continuing their relief and rescue operations.
