On Wednesday, prominent wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia met with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Congress party shared a photograph of this meeting on the social media platform X, sparking speculation about their potential entry into politics on a Congress ticket in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections.


Rahul Gandhi said, "Today I met and talked to wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who have made the country proud by winning many medals for India.


This isn't the first political connection for Vinesh Phogat. After returning from the Paris Olympics, she met with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, who stated that anyone wishing to join the party is welcome in Congress. This further fueled discussions about Phogat's potential political ambitions.


Recently, when Vinesh Phogat visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, she refrained from commenting on whether she plans to contest in the upcoming elections. 


Meanwhile, upon her return from Paris, Congress MP Deepender Hooda greeted her at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, followed by a procession to her village. Since then, rumors have continued to circulate about her possible candidacy for the Haryana Assembly elections on a Congress ticket.

Media and Entertainment sector lower downs 24% in 2020 despite last-quarter rebound

  India's media and entertainment (M&E) sector lower downed 24% to Rs1.38 trillion in 2020 due to the corona-virus pandemic. The contractions came despite a rebound in the last-quarter. The M&E sector is supposed to expand 25% to Rs1.73 trillion in 2021 and compound annual growth rate of 13.7% to Rs2.23 trillion by 2023, according to a joint report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(Ficci) and EY, finance consulting firm.  While advertisement revenues dropped 25% to 19,900 crore and subscriptions fell 20% to 15,400 crores. Digital advertisement remained unchanged, but print (Rs 8,400 crore) and television (Rs 6,900 crore) advertising saw the steepest declines. The only segments that rose in 2020 were digital and online gaming, which added a total of Rs 2,600 crore and their contribution to the M&E sector rose from 16% in 2019 to 23% in 2020.
