Following the recent reshuffle of ministries in Haryana, veteran Cabinet Minister Anil Vij has assumed full responsibility for his new departments. While there has been speculation about Vij's disappointment over not securing the Chief Minister's position or the Home Department, his actions and words suggest otherwise. He has expressed contentment with the departments allocated to him in the Nayab Singh Saini-led cabinet, reaffirming his commitment to his new roles during a media interaction.
Vij has been entrusted with the key portfolios of Electricity, Transport, and Labor in the Haryana government. This redistribution of departments was officially announced on Monday through a government notification. Ever since this announcement, Vij has been actively taking charge of his new responsibilities.
Swift Action on Electricity Bill
Speaking to the media, Vij recounted how he received the official notification of his new portfolios via WhatsApp at precisely 12:05 a.m. on Monday. The message confirmed his appointment as the minister in charge of Transport, Electricity, and Labor. He recalled that his first thought was to check whether he had any pending dues related to his newly assigned departments.
Upon discovering that his electricity bill for the month was indeed pending, Vij wasted no time in settling the amount online. "At 12:32 a.m., I paid my bill," Vij shared, emphasizing his belief in leading by example. He remarked, "How can I expect others to clear their dues if I haven’t cleared mine? If electricity bills remain unpaid, the department cannot function smoothly. So, paying them is essential."
Focus on Results: Aiming for Efficiency
Anil Vij also highlighted his approach to managing his new responsibilities. He stated that the distribution of departments was entirely at the discretion of the Chief Minister, and his role now was to excel in the areas assigned to him. Using a cricket analogy, Vij declared, "Wherever we get a chance, we will hit fours and sixes," implying that he is ready to make significant strides in his new roles.
Vij mentioned a conversation with the Chief Minister in which he had expressed no particular desire for a ministerial position. However, having now been given substantial departments to oversee, he is determined to ensure the smooth operation of services across the state.
A Vision for the Electricity Department
Taking immediate charge of the Electricity Department, Vij has already issued directives to officials to improve the infrastructure. He stressed the importance of removing electricity poles obstructing roads and making sure that electric wires are not visible in public areas. "Wherever repairs are needed, they should be carried out promptly," he added, underscoring his hands-on approach to governance.
A Shift in Roles: From Home and Health to New Challenges
Anil Vij previously held prominent positions in the Manohar Lal Khattar government, where he was responsible for both the Home and Health Departments. It was widely speculated that he would regain the Home portfolio in Nayab Singh Saini’s cabinet, but the Chief Minister decided to retain control of that department. Instead, Vij has been assigned new responsibilities, and he appears eager to make his mark in these areas.
In conclusion, while there have been rumors of Vij’s dissatisfaction with the reshuffle, his recent actions show a leader ready to tackle fresh challenges with energy and determination. Whether it’s paying an electricity bill at midnight or planning major reforms in infrastructure, Vij’s proactive approach suggests that he is more focused on delivering results than dwelling on past expectations.
