Bahraich violence: Administration gears up for bulldozer action, notices pasted on 23 properties

Saturday marks the seventh day since the outbreak of violence in Bahraich, with streets remaining quiet and police forces deployed in various areas. The administration has begun to take action, considering the use of bulldozers at the residence of Abdul Hameed, the main suspect in the murder of Ram Gopal.

On Friday night, the Public Works Department (PWD) pasted notices on 23 homes and shops in Maharajganj, comprising 20 belonging to Muslim families and 3 to Hindu families. The administration has provided a three-day window for responses, warning that bulldozer action may follow if there is no reply. This area is noted as the point where the violence began during the idol immersion.

In response to the notices, some shopkeepers from the affected houses have begun to vacate their premises. Officials express optimism that normalcy will return within two to three days. There has been no arson incident since October 14.

In the meantime, Roli, the wife of deceased Ram Gopal, along with his father, Kailash Mishra, released a video expressing dissatisfaction with the police's actions. Kailash Mishra stated, "The accused should be killed just like my son was killed."

The violence erupted during the Durga idol immersion on Sunday, October 13, leading to the arrest of 26 people on Friday, bringing the total number of arrests to 89 thus far.

Of the five arrested in connection with the Bahraich violence, two were injured during an encounter, while the remaining three were taken into custody, according to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, who also stated that the situation is now under control. The recent encounter in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked a heated debate between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition.
