Bhagalpur Blast: A bomb blast took place in Shahjahani Maidan in Bhagalpur, Bihar at around 2 pm on Tuesday (1 October), in which 7 children playing there were injured. 3 children were more burnt in the blast that took place during the game, the condition of the remaining four is said to be out of danger. All the injured children have been admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment, where doctors have referred three children to Mayaganj Hospital in view of their critical condition.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bhagalpur, Anand Kumar told that the blast took place in Khilafat Nagar locality, under the jurisdiction of Habibpur police station, of the town and the children appeared to have inadvertently fiddled with an explosive substance.
"Seven children, three of them seriously, were injured in the incident," he said.
"The incident took place around noon and forensic experts as well dog squad have reached the spot to defuse any such explosives that may be lying at the garbage dump and also identify the nature of the explosion that took place," said the SSP.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted to further investigate the matter, he said.
Sound of the bomb was heard up to about 1 km away
Local people told about the incident that the blast was so loud that the sound of the bomb was heard up to about 1 km away. There was chaos at the spot after the blast. According to City SP K. Ramdas, the forensic team has also reached the spot and is investigating. The blast took place in Shahjahani Maidan of Habibpur police station area.
'I saw child covered in blood'
Ruksar, mother of the child Mannu, who was injured in the blast, said that 'I don't know how the bomb exploded. When we came out after hearing the sound of the bomb blast, we saw that the child was covered in blood. There was a very loud explosion. I took my two children to the hospital and got them admitted.
Blasts occurred in past also
On 15 June 2023, a bomb exploded in Bhagalpur. 2 children were injured in this blast. This incident took place in Manoharpur of Nathnagar area. A bomb was kept next to the bushes near a platform in the garden of Manoharpur village. During this time, two children who went to pick mangoes were hit by it. Dharmendra Chaurasia's sons Balveer (6) and Kisu Kumari (8) were injured in this blast. The sound of the blast was heard for about half a kilometer.
Local people also tell that on 4 March 2022, 14 people died in a blast while making bombs in Bhagalpur. There was a massive explosion at around 11.30 pm. The blast shook an area of about 5 km. Four houses collapsed due to the bomb blast. 14 bodies were recovered. Apart from this, 10 people were also seriously injured in the explosion.
