Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor will be upgraded to four lanes. In this, Rs 3,589 crore has been approved for Bhopal to Vidisha, Vidisha to Gyaraspur, Sataighat to Chauka and Chauka to Kaimaha packages.
With the construction of this corridor, the distance from Bhopal to Kanpur can be covered in seven hours. Connectivity with Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi including Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh will be improved. Business activities will get a boost and the local economy will be strengthened.
Along with the corridor, Rs 592 crore has also been approved for the Mandla-Nainpur route. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has posted this information on X. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari for this achievement of the state.
Govt had announced Bundelkhand Vikas Path
The state government had announced the Bundelkhand Vikas Path under its Sankalp Patra, which is an important four-lane road project connecting the state capital Bhopal to Sagar and Chhatarpur districts of Bundelkhand. The aim of this project is to improve road connectivity from Bhopal to Sagar via Chhatarpur and Uttar Pradesh border.
Economic development of the region will get a boost
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given permission to upgrade the route from Bhopal to Sagar and Chhatarpur to Uttar Pradesh border to four-lane. This approval will accelerate the construction of Bundelkhand Vikas Path. This path will not only help in improving connectivity, but will also promote regional economic development and business activities. This will boost regional economic activities along with employment. Rs 592 crore has also been approved to upgrade the 46 km long route from Mandla to Nainpur.
The corridor will be ready by 2026
The construction of the corridor will start first in MP. The corridor will be completed in 4 phases by 2026. The length of the corridor in MP is 360 km. For this, the Center has approved 3589 crores. This work will give impetus to the efforts of Madhya Pradesh, under which the Mohan government is engaged in increasing industrial investment in the state. This upgrade will strengthen the economic road infrastructure between MP and UP. It will also help in making traffic and travel smooth.
Overall, the entire corridor will provide direct connectivity from Lucknow-Kanpur to Bhopal via Hamirpur, making travel across long distances more convenient. Moreover, it is poised to alleviate congestion on the Naubasta-Hamirpur Highway.
The construction of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic corridor is anticipated to significantly enhance the supply chain of construction materials, particularly those transported from Madhya Pradesh to cities in Uttar Pradesh.
Upon its completion, the highway will seamlessly integrate into the UP-MP National Highway network. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aims to conclude both projects by 2026.
