Bhopal: Panel Discussion on Managing Workplace Stress: Insights from Dr. Manisha Shrivastava and Other Experts at BMHRC for World Mental Health Week

Bhopal. ‘Those working on very important posts in the institutes have more responsibilities and less time. In such a situation, time management and completing one’s work on time is very challenging, but this challenge can be dealt with. I have made some rules for this. I always keep a diary with me. Whatever work has to be done, I write it in the diary. Whatever work comes in front of me, I do not leave it pending. I leave the office only after finishing all the files.’

This is what Dr Manisha Shrivastava, Director-in-Charge of BMHRC, said. She was speaking in a panel discussion organized at BMHRC on the topic how to overcome stress at workplace. This program was organized on the occasion of World Mental Health Week being organized by the Department of Psychiatry of BMHRC from 7 September to 15 September.

This panel discussion also included Dr Krishna Jain, Chief Medical Officer, Indian Institute of Science and Environment Research (IISER), Dr Sandeep Sorte, Head of Department of Neuro Surgery, BMHRC, Dr Sarika Katiyar, Head of Department of Emergency Medicine, Nursing Superintendent Mrs Sheeba Rani Kalesh and President of Junior Doctors Association, Dr Yug.

'Our friends are very helpful in relieving stress'

Dr Srivastava said that our friends are very helpful in relieving stress, so it is very important to have good friends in life. Everyone should be respected at the workplace, whether they are seniors or juniors.

Dr Krishna Jain said that factionalism is a major cause of stress at the workplace. Dr Sandeep Sorte said that the most difficult task as a neurosurgeon is to satisfy the patient and his family. They expect that the patient's surgery should be done as soon as possible after admission to the hospital, whereas in the case of neurosurgery patients, sometimes it is not possible to do so. Many times such situations arise which cause stress, but it cannot be cured. In such a situation, the way to relieve stress is to accept the circumstances.

Dr. Sarika Katiyar said that I like doing academic work. In such a situation, if I do any work related to academics in the office, then the stress disappears. Dr. Yug said that I meditate before coming to the hospital in the morning. This helps in relieving stress. A meditation session was also held during the program and a play on the subject of mental health at the workplace was also staged by the students of Nursing College.
