Palak Sindhwani, who portrayed the character of Sonu in the popular TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has exited the show after five years due to a legal dispute. Earlier, many other prominent cast members such as Jennifer Mistry and Shailesh Lodha left the show due to different reasons reasons.
Khushi Mali Steps In as the New Sonu
To fill the role of Sonu Bhide, the show's makers have cast Khushi Mali, an actress known for her work in the television show Sajha Sindoor. Khushi will be making her debut as Sonu in an episode scheduled to air on October 7.
Khushi Mali maintains an active presence on social media and has over 54.4K followers on Instagram. She often shares reels and pictures with her fans and followers. Besides collaborating with brands on social media and modeling gigs, she also featured in a few advertisements.

Speaking about her new role, Khushi expressed her excitement, saying, "Playing the role of Sonu will be very fun because the character has many qualities. Also, being a part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is very special for me. I am excited to connect with the fans through my role."
Khushi has previously appeared in a few television shows but views her new role as Sonu as a significant opportunity to engage with a broader audience.
As soon as the news of Khushi Mali joining Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah surfaced, she shared one of the posts on social media and wrote, “Thank you asit sir for giving me this golden opportunity.”
On the other hand, Palak Sindhwani has been playing the role of Sonu in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for the last five years. Reportedly, the makers of the Asit Modi-produced show issued a legal notice to Palak for breach of their contract. She also issued a statement where she accused the makers of mental harassment and torture.
Sonu's Character Recast for the Fourth Time
Khushi will be the fourth actress to play the role of Sonu in the long-running series. The character was first portrayed by Jheel Mehta from 2008 to 2012, followed by Nidhi Bhanushali from 2012 to 2019, and most recently, Palak Sidhwani from 2019 to 2024. This frequent recasting of the character reflects the show's long history, but it has also contributed to mixed reactions from viewers.
