Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: In the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday (7 October) filed a chargesheet against the main accused Sanjay Roy. After the brutality at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata Police arrested Sanjay Roy on 10 August. After the order of the High Court, this case was handed over to the CBI.
Sanjay Roy named as the main accused of brutality
CBI in its chargesheet has named Sanjay Roy as the main accused of brutality with a female doctor while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. CBI completed the investigation of this case within two months and on Monday presented the chargesheet in a sealed envelope in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.
CBI is also probing the brutality from the angle of gangrape
According to CBI sources, the chargesheet claims to have recorded the statements of about 200 people, including Sanjay Roy as the main accused. The investigating agency is also trying to find out if more people were involved in this incident and whether it is a case of gang rape.
The body of the victim doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9 and the investigation revealed how horrific the incident was with her. There were massive protests against this incident across the country, after which the court ordered the CBI to investigate this case.
The main accused Sanjay Roy worked as a contract employee (civic volunteer) with Kolkata Police. The police handed him over to the CBI after his arrest. In this case, the victim's colleagues have been protesting for the last two months and are now on a hunger strike to demand justice in the RG Kar Medical College case and to increase the security of doctors.
