Political parties are gearing up for the upcoming by-elections for 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. In a notable development, a delegation from the Kisan Union met with Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday, stirring the political landscape of the state and raising concerns for the BJP.
During the meeting, farmer leaders expressed their support for Akhilesh Yadav, stating that he represents their interests and advocates for farmers' rights. They highlighted the significant initiatives taken during the Samajwadi Party's tenure, contrasting them with the current BJP government's record, which they claim has seen a troubling rise in farmer suicides and a lack of support for agricultural needs.
BJP slammed for failing to fulfill its promises regarding sugarcane payments
The farmer representatives praised Akhilesh Yadav for increasing sugarcane prices and ensuring full payment to farmers during his time as Chief Minister. They criticized the BJP for failing to fulfill its promises regarding sugarcane payments over the past seven years, asserting that the government has only provided empty assurances.
The delegation, which included key members from the Bharatiya Kisan Union, emphasized the advancements made in agricultural marketing, infrastructure development, and electricity supply during the Samajwadi administration. They noted that 75 percent of the budget was allocated to rural and agricultural development.
Yadav accuses BJP of betraying farmers, youth
Akhilesh Yadav, speaking at the SP headquarters in Lucknow, declared that the BJP government at the Center is on the verge of collapse. He accused the BJP of betraying farmers, youth, and business owners, citing rampant inflation and unemployment as evidence of the government's failed policies. He reiterated the need for support for farmers and the poor, recalling the significant measures taken during the Samajwadi government to aid these groups and improve market access.
