Madhya Pradesh Bhopal: In a renewed effort to clamp down on illegal colony development, the Bhopal district administration is gearing up to take strong action against illegal colonies and unauthorized plotting. Following the Dussehra festival, bulldozers will move into these areas to dismantle illegal constructions.
Under the direction of Bhopal District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have identified and compiled a list of illegal colonies within their jurisdictions. Over five dozen colonies and builders involved in unauthorized construction have been issued notices, and the administration is preparing to take stringent legal and physical action against them.
This includes not only demolishing illegal structures but also pursuing legal consequences for those responsible for these unauthorized developments.
Illegal colonizers operating without proper permits
The issue of illegal colonies has been a growing problem in various parts of Bhopal, including areas such as Ratibad, Neelbad, Rolukhedi, Kanasaiyya, Kalapani, Pachama, Pipaliya Barkhedi, Amravadkalan, and Shobhapur, among others.
Illegal developments have also been identified along Berasia Road, Sevania Onkara, Kolua Khurd, Hathaikheda, Raisen Road, Kalkheda, and Bairagarh. According to officials, these illegal colonizers have been operating without proper permits, such as diversion certificates, colonizer licenses, or approval from the Town and Country Planning (T&CP) department.
Buyers misled
Many of these builders have misled buyers by developing colonies without providing basic infrastructure or legal clearances, leaving the public vulnerable to fraud and property disputes.
The administration has stated that such illegal activities will not be tolerated, and strict measures will be taken to restore legal order and protect the interests of the general public.
Action Ordered After MP’s Intervention
The crackdown on illegal colonies gained momentum after a recent District Development Committee meeting, where Bhopal Member of Parliament (MP) Alok Sharma brought the issue to the attention of Chetan Kumar Kashyap, the minister in charge. Sharma emphasized that those developing illegal colonies were not only flouting regulations but also denying essential services to residents.
Following the MP’s complaint, the minister ordered immediate action, directing Collector Singh to address the matter with urgency. This directive has led to the current round of enforcement, with the administration now poised to take decisive action against violators.
Recent Crackdown in Huzur Tehsil
The administration’s determination to tackle illegal land developments was evident in a recent operation in the Huzur Tehsil area, which could serve as a model for the upcoming action across the district. Last month, under the leadership of Huzur SDM Vinod Sonkia, a major crackdown was carried out on Neelbad-Ratibad Road. Illegal colonizers were targeted, and within just 15 days, the administration dismantled encroachments on land valued at around Rs 40 crore.
Bulldozers were deployed to break the gates of colonies that had been developed on 45 acres of land without proper permissions. Roads and other infrastructure illegally constructed in areas such as Neelbad, Semri Bajyaft, and Chhapri village were also removed as part of the drive.
This swift action has sent a clear message to land mafias and illegal developers that unauthorized activities will not be tolerated. The administration's actions in Huzur Tehsil are likely a preview of the broader measures that will be implemented in other parts of Bhopal after Dussehra.
Legal and Physical Action on the Horizon
As the list of illegal colonies continues to grow, the district administration is prepared to carry out further demolitions and pursue legal avenues against violators. In addition to physical removal of illegal structures, authorities are considering legal action against those who have exploited loopholes and taken advantage of unsuspecting buyers. The goal is to ensure that land development follows proper legal procedures and that public trust is restored in the real estate market.
As bulldozers prepare to roll and legal proceedings are initiated, this operation is likely to serve as a strong deterrent to illegal land developers, signaling that Bhopal is taking a tough stance against such unlawful activities.
