Maharashtra: Amid election buzz, Ajit Pawar again met Amit Shah, was it significant?

Just before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met with Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah on Wedesday. However, details regarding the discussions from this meeting have not yet been disclosed.

This meeting reportedly took place amid rising tensions concerning the role of Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) within the ruling 'Mahayuti' alliance in Maharashtra, particularly regarding the party's opposition to certain anti-Muslim remarks made by some BJP leaders.

It is worth noting that the leaders of Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have also always been critical of the NCP. The three allies of the Mahayuti have not yet finalized the seat sharing for the 228-member assembly elections, which is now expected to be held next month.

Ajit Pawar himself had earlier said that the allies of the Mahayuti will remain united and will work to ensure the victory of the alliance in the assembly elections. Shah addressed BJP workers in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Earlier, on the night of September 24, Amit Shah had also met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Aftert this Amit Shah reached Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Tuesday on a two-day Maharashtra tour.

Earlier, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule had said that a consensus has been reached among the constituents of the Mahayuti alliance to contest 70-80% of the 288 seats for the assembly elections. In the current assembly, BJP is the largest party with 103 MLAs. After this, Shinde's Shiv Sena has 40, Ajit Pawar's NCP has 41 and Congress has 40 MLAs. Shiv Sena UBT has 15, NCP (SP) has 13 MLAs. Whereas, others are 29 and some seats are currently vacant.
