Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction he heads, has expressed confidence that the outcome of the Haryana elections will not influence the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, scheduled for next month.
In response to questions regarding the India Alliance’s strategy for the Maharashtra elections following Congress’s defeat in Haryana, Pawar clarified that the political situation in the two states is distinct. He attributed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in Haryana to the existing BJP government there, which allowed them to return to power.
Pawar emphasized, “The results in Jammu and Kashmir are far more significant for the country and receive much more global attention. The Haryana election results, in my view, will not have any bearing on the Maharashtra elections.”
Elections for all 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly are set to take place on November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. The BJP has just secured a third consecutive term in Haryana, winning 48 out of 90 seats in the elections held on October 5, while the Congress managed to win 37 seats.
