Friday, 29 November, marked the fourth day of the Parliament’s Winter Session, but proceedings were disrupted as Congress MPs raised an uproar over allegations involving the Adani Group. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was forced to adjourn the session shortly after it began.
The controversy intensified after Rahul Gandhi accused Adani of paying a Rs 2,000 crore bribe in the US, further alleging that the Modi government was shielding him. His claims have added fuel to the already tense political atmosphere.
Adding to the eventful week, Priyanka Gandhi officially took her oath as the MP from Wayanad on Wednesday. Her mother, Sonia Gandhi, and brother, Rahul Gandhi, were present during the ceremony, emphasizing the family’s continued prominence in national politics.
AAP MPs Protest Over Delhi's Law and Order
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also staged protests on Friday, focusing on the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi. Led by prominent leaders like Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha, AAP MPs demonstrated with placards before the session began. They accused the central government of failing to maintain security in the capital, signaling that the issue may become a focal point during the session.
Sambhal Violence and Other Issues Raised
The Parliament also witnessed heated discussions on the recent violence in Sambhal. Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ram Gopal Yadav accused the government of evading critical debates on Sambhal, Manipur, and the Adani controversy. He expressed concern over the government's reluctance to engage in discussions, questioning how the House could function amid such avoidance.
Yadav also addressed the controversy surrounding the Ajmer Dargah incident, expressing dismay at the growing communal tensions. He warned that such incidents could tarnish India's global image, emphasizing the need for a more responsible approach to sensitive issues.
The fourth day of the Winter Session highlighted the growing political unrest, with debates over Adani, Delhi's security, and communal violence taking center stage. As tensions mount, the effectiveness of parliamentary proceedings remains uncertain, with opposition parties pressing the government for accountability on multiple fronts.
