Jharkhand Assembly Election 2024: Second phase 'battle'; voters queuing up at polling booths; Know about some key seats of Jharkhand


Voting for the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections-2024 is going on today, Wednesday 20 November. In the second round, voters are queuing up at polling booths for 38 assembly seats in 12 districts. In this phase, the fate of 528 candidates will be captured in EVMs.


The maximum number of seats are in Dhanbad and Giridih districts. There are six seats each here. At the same time, the least number of seats are in Hazaribagh and Ramgarh districts. Where voting is taking place on one seat each. Earlier, voting was held on 43 assembly seats in the first phase of elections on 13 November. In which 66.65 percent voting was done.


Voting is going on for all 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra and 38 seats of the second phase in Jharkhand. Along with this, people are also casting their votes for by-elections on 14 seats in 3 states today.


Let's take a look at some important assembly seats of Jharkhand


Barhet - Hemant Soren


Current Chief Minister Hemant Soren is contesting from Barhet seat of Santhal Pargana. Earlier, he has won from this seat twice.


Hemant Soren has also been a member of Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2010. In the year 2013, he took over the post of Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the first time.


Gamaliyal Hembram will be in the fray against him from BJP. Earlier, he has also been a part of the state's All Jharkhand Student Union i.e. AJSU.


Gandey - Kalpana Soren


Kalpana Soren, wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is in the fray from this seat. Kalpana Soren won the by-election held on this seat this year.


Kalpana Soren is the daughter of retired Indian Army officer Ampa Murmu. He will face the challenge of BJP's Munia Devi, who is currently the District Council President of Giridih.


Dhanwar - Babulal Marandi


Jharkhand BJP President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi is in the fray from this seat. He also won this seat in the 2019 assembly elections.


Marandi became the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand under the leadership of NDA. In the year 2006, he left BJP and formed Jharkhand Vikas Morcha. But in the year 2020, he merged his party with BJP.


He will face the challenge of CPI (ML)'s Raj Kumar Yadav, who won this seat in the year 2014 assembly elections.


Special faces in this second phase


The popular seats in the second phase of voting of Jharkhand elections being held today include Barhet, Dumka, Gandey, Jamtara, Silli, Dhanwar, Maheshpur, Jharia, Poraiyahat and Jama. If we talk about the prominent faces in the second phase, then in this phase, Chief Minister Hemant Soren himself along with his family, former CM Babulal Marandi, AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto, former Deputy CM Stephen Marandi, former minister Louis Marandi, former DSP Navneet Hembram and many other big faces are involved in this battle. At the same time, the political fate of the two daughters-in-law of the famous Singh Mansion in Jharia will also be decided in the second phase.
