Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced the launch of its first all-electric, ground-up sport utility vehicles (SUVs) under the BE and XEV brands—the BE 6e and XEV 9e.
Priced at ₹18.9 lakh and ₹21.9 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively, these models mark the beginning of Mahindra’s ambitious electric vehicle (EV) strategy, which includes six new EVs scheduled to launch by 2028.
Competitive Pricing and Strategic Positioning
To carve a significant space in India’s growing EV market, Mahindra has strategically priced its BE 6e and XEV 9e against popular mid and premium internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs. This pricing approach aims to appeal to value-conscious consumers while still offering a premium feature set. The company seeks to position its models as viable alternatives to upcoming EVs like Hyundai’s Creta EV, expected to launch next year.
Deliveries and Dealer Network Expansion
The BE 6e and XEV 9e are set to hit the roads in the fourth quarter of this financial year. In anticipation of the rollout, Mahindra is revamping its dealer network, particularly in major metropolitan areas, to enhance the customer experience and ensure smooth delivery and servicing of these new EVs.
Built on the Advanced INGLO Platform
Both the BE 6e and XEV 9e are built on Mahindra’s cutting-edge INGLO platform, designed exclusively for electric vehicles. This platform underpins their impressive range and performance, setting a benchmark in the Indian EV market.
BE 6e: Offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 682 km, making it one of the longest-range EVs in its segment.
XEV 9e: Provides a range of 656 km, ensuring long-distance travel without frequent recharging.
Both models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, known for their durability and safety.
Fast-Charging Capability
A standout feature of these SUVs is their fast-charging capability. Using a 175kW DC charger, the batteries can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. This fast-charging option addresses a key concern for EV users—reducing downtime during long journeys.
With the launch of the BE 6e and XEV 9e, Mahindra & Mahindra is making a bold entry into India’s electric SUV market. By offering competitive pricing, extensive driving range, and fast-charging technology, Mahindra is positioning itself as a key player in the country’s EV revolution. As the company rolls out more models under its XEV and BE brands, it aims to solidify its leadership in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape.
