As Madhya Pradesh gears up for by-elections in two key assembly seats—Budhni and Vijaypur—scheduled for November 13, both Congress and BJP are set to intensify their campaigning efforts post-Diwali. Leaders from both parties are mobilizing to secure these crucial constituencies, with high-profile figures including Congress leader Kamal Nath and BJP's Shivraj Singh Chouhan leading the charge.
Cong Targets Shivraj in Budhni
The Congress has strategically planned its campaign in Budhni, where the party seeks to challenge the influence of BJP’s veteran Shivraj Singh Chouhan on his traditional stronghold. Congress leaders Arun Yadav, Sajjan Singh Verma, and Shailendra Patel are focusing efforts to corner Chouhan and highlight their party’s alternative vision for the constituency.
To rally support, Congress stalwarts will be present in Budhni and Vijaypur. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath is scheduled for a two-day campaign in these areas, where he will hold public meetings to present Congress’s vision.
According to Kamal Nath’s schedule, on November 5 he will hold a public meeting at Rehti in Budhni at 11 am followed by a meeting at Bhaironda in Budhni at 12:15 pm.
On November 6, Nath will make a visit to Sheopur to offer condolences at the residence of late Satyabhan Singh Chauhan at 10:30 am and hold a public meeting at Karhal in Vijaypur at 11:15 am
Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh (state in-charge), PCC Chief Jitu Patwari, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, and Deputy Leader of Opposition Hemant Katare will also join the campaign to drum up support for Congress candidates in both constituencies.
BJP Emphasizes Development Achievements
The BJP is fighting the by-elections on the agenda of development, with a strong focus on showcasing achievements under Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s leadership in Budhni. Although the BJP candidate in Budhni is Ramakant Bhargava, the party’s campaign revolves around Shivraj’s established track record of development, hoping to sway voters by emphasizing progress and government schemes that have benefited the area.
Top BJP leaders and ministers, including Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, BJP State President VD Sharma, and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will be at the forefront of the campaign, advocating for continuity and stability. The BJP aims to underline the central and state government’s contributions to the area’s development as a key reason for re-electing its candidates in both Budhni and Vijaypur.
Kamal Nath’s Two-Day Campaign and Jiu Patwari’s Focus on Vijaypur
Congress’s campaign is further strengthened by Kamal Nath’s presence, as he holds meetings in both Budhni and Vijaypur. Jitu Patwari, PCC Chief, has shown a particular focus on Vijaypur, where he dedicated a week to campaign before Diwali, engaging in small-scale street meetings to connect directly with the voters. Patwari’s efforts aim to build grassroots support in Vijaypur, a constituency that Congress is keen on winning.
Budhni and Vijaypur: High Stakes for Both Parties
Both Budhni and Vijaypur are emerging as significant battlegrounds where development, leadership, and local influence will play a crucial role. BJP is banking on its developmental narrative and the political influence of Shivraj Singh Chouhan to retain control, especially in Budhni. Meanwhile, Congress seeks to leverage its grassroots campaigning and high-profile leaders to pose a serious challenge in both constituencies.
