Despite the announcement of a new executive team in the Madhya Pradesh Congress party, internal discord remains rampant, leading to a steady stream of resignations from leadership roles. Several key figures, including former MLA Kalpana Verma of Raigaon, have turned down their assigned posts, citing dissatisfaction with the structure and appointments. Currently, even leaders who have accepted roles are reportedly considering leaving, indicating a turbulent atmosphere within the party.
A Series of Resignations
Since the release of Congress's updated executive list, six leaders have already rejected their positions. Among these is former Raigaon MLA Kalpana Verma, who declined her appointment as secretary. Additionally, Indore Congress leader Pramod Tandon resigned from the post of secretary shortly after the list's release, signaling his discontent. Other prominent figures who have refused to accept their roles include Aman Bajaj, President of the Bhopal City Congress Committee; Monu Saxena, former city president; Ramlakhan Dandotia from Morena; and Yasir Hasnat Siddiqui. This wave of refusals has highlighted a serious issue of internal disagreements within the newly appointed team.
New Executive Structure: 355 Appointments, Growing Dissatisfaction
After significant anticipation, Congress unveiled its new executive lineup, comprising 355 officials. The team was introduced in two phases, with the first list naming 177 office bearers and the second adding 158 more. However, the appointments have failed to quell underlying discontent across several districts, where local leaders feel their concerns have not been addressed. The decision to appoint such a large executive team was intended to include a broader range of voices, but it appears to have led instead to growing divisions.
Discontent Among Senior Leaders
Senior Congress leaders have also voiced frustration with the new executive structure. Former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh and senior leader Govind Singh have openly criticized the appointments. Govind Singh expressed disappointment over the exclusion of his supporters, suggesting that party leadership is overlooking regional allies. Ajay Singh, another prominent figure, alleged that the Vindhya region has been ignored in the appointments, potentially alienating key constituencies and supporters.
Implications for Cong's Future Cohesion
The ongoing resignations and criticisms reflect a deep-seated issue within the Congress party’s approach to internal unity. While a newly structured executive was intended to revive and strengthen party dynamics, the fallout from these appointments may pose challenges for Congress's efforts to consolidate its support base.
