In a recent interview with prominent journalist Deepak Chaurasia, Poonam Mahajan, daughter of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, has reignited interest in her father’s tragic murder by asserting that a deeper conspiracy was involved. Mahajan, a senior BJP figure in Maharashtra herself, expressed her intention to request a re-investigation into the case, signaling her determination to uncover the truth behind her father’s death. She plans to formally approach the Union Home Minister and Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister to advocate for a comprehensive inquiry.
"A Deep Conspiracy Behind My Father’s Murder"
During her interview with Chaurasia, Poonam Mahajan revealed her long-standing suspicion that her father’s death was not a straightforward crime but the result of a calculated conspiracy. She noted that since the tragedy occurred in 2006, she has harbored doubts regarding the true motives behind her father's murder. While she refrained from detailing any specific motives, she voiced her conviction that the crime was not a mere act of violence but part of a sinister plot.
Poonam Mahajan emphasized that her call for a re-investigation is driven purely by a pursuit of justice, devoid of any political motivations. Despite her father's murder happening nearly two decades ago, she believes that recent developments and political alliances might now help bring out the truth.
Details of Pramod Mahajan's Murder
Pramod Mahajan, a senior BJP leader known for his influence and strategic vision, was murdered on April 22, 2006, in his Mumbai apartment. The incident occurred early in the morning while Mahajan was seated in the drawing room, reading the newspaper and watching television.
His younger brother, Praveen Mahajan, entered the residence after Mahajan’s wife, Rekha, opened the door. Without warning, Praveen fired four shots at his elder brother, fatally wounding him. Following the shooting, Praveen voluntarily surrendered at a nearby police station.
In October 2007, the court sentenced Praveen Mahajan to life imprisonment for the murder. Though the case appeared to be closed with Praveen’s conviction, Poonam Mahajan’s recent statements have cast new doubts, suggesting that hidden motives and influences may have been involved.
Plans to Write to the Home Minister
Determined to uncover the full story, Poonam Mahajan has announced plans to formally address her concerns in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. She hopes that her appeal to these prominent BJP leaders, with whom she shares a party affiliation, will lead to a fresh look at her father's case. Given the BJP's current control at both state and central levels, Mahajan believes that the timing might be right to finally reveal the full truth surrounding her father's untimely death.
Mahajan stated that the pain of losing her father has been compounded by lingering questions that she feels have never been fully answered. Her request for a re-investigation stems from her desire to seek justice for her family and to ensure that any underlying motives behind the crime are brought to light.
Poonam Mahajan's Journey in Politics
The tragic death of her father in 2006 led Poonam Mahajan to enter the political arena. She joined the BJP that same year, marking the beginning of her political journey. In her first electoral endeavor in 2009, she contested the Ghatkopar West seat in the Lok Sabha elections but was unsuccessful. However, in the 2014 general elections, she won a seat in the Mumbai North Central constituency, defeating Congress candidate Priya Dutt.
Beyond politics, Mahajan is known for her achievements in aviation; she is a trained pilot with over 300 hours of flight experience, having trained in Texas, USA. She also holds a B.Tech degree from the Brighton School of Business and Management, obtained in 2012.
Seeking Justice After Nearly Two Decades
Nearly 18 years after Pramod Mahajan’s murder, his daughter is more determined than ever to seek justice and uncover the facts surrounding his death. Poonam Mahajan’s call for a re-investigation has once again brought public attention to the case, and her allegations of a conspiracy may prompt a new chapter in the investigation. With the support of BJP leaders at the state and central levels, Mahajan hopes that the answers she seeks—and that her family deserves—will finally come to light.
