Nearly 10,000 students who protested for four days outside the Public Service Commission office in Uttar Pradesh have achieved a big victory. The government has responded to the students' demands and political pressure, agreeing to all of their requests. Notably, the plan to conduct the examination in two shifts has been canceled. This information was confirmed by UP Public Service Commission Secretary Ashok Kumar.
On the other hand, the students are demanding that like PCS, RO-ARO exam should also be conducted in one day and one shift. The students are still adamant on this. The opposition political parties are also continuously attacking the BJP government.
Kumar said, 'UPPSC will conduct the preliminary examination in one day. The commission will form a committee for Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) Examination-2023. The committee will consider all aspects and submit its detailed report. Then the decision will be taken on the RO/ARO exam.'
On the fourth day of the protests outside the Public Service Commission, a clash occurred between the candidates and the police. The police attempted to manage the situation by using barricades, while the students sought to break through to reach the office. Many students climbed over the barricades, and in response, police and PAC personnel on-site resorted to a lathi charge to control the crowd.
Opposition made it an issue
The opposition seized upon the situation as a key issue in the by-election. Despite the police's lathi charge, the students remained determined, although many sustained injuries. In response, opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi slammed the government. Both leaders described the normalization process as lacking transparency.
The opposition's solidarity with the students increased pressure on the government. The students' protests, occurring during the by-election in Uttar Pradesh, became a notable challenge for the administration. Opposition parties, aligning with the students, targeted the Chief Minister Yogi, ultimately leading the Uttar Pradesh government to concede to the students' demands.
Rahul Gandhi expressed his concerns on social media regarding the students' protest and the police response, stating, "The attitude of the UP government and the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission towards the competitive students in Prayagraj is extremely insensitive and unfortunate. The non-transparent system in the name of normalization is unacceptable, and the students' demand for a single shift examination is entirely justified. Why should the students bear the consequences of the BJP government's failures in the education system?"
