BJP issues whip to its MPs, which important bills can be presented in Lok Sabha today?

BJP on Tuesday issued a whip to all its MPs to be present in the proceedings of Lok Sabha.

It said, "All the MPs of Bharatiya Janata Party are informed that some very important legislative work will be brought in the Lok Sabha for discussion and passage on Tuesday, 17 December."

After BJP, Shiv Sena has also issued a whip to its MPs to be present in the Lok Sabha.

According to reports, the 'One Nation One Election' bill may also be among the bills to be presented on Tuesday. This bill was recently approved by the Cabinet.

To conduct Lok Sabha and state assembly elections simultaneously in the country, the central government had formed a high-level committee under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. This committee had recommended One Nation One Election.

Challenges in implementation

While the idea has of One Nation One Election has sparked widespread discussion, most agree that its implementation is currently impractical and faces numerous hurdles and operational challenges remain. Critical logistical issues need resolution before the reform can be implemented. 

"One Nation, One Election" could disproportionately benefit the BJP by weakening opposition and regional parties. Smaller parties often lack the financial resources, manpower, and organizational infrastructure required to contest Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously. This disparity might place them at a disadvantage, further consolidating power in the hands of larger parties with better election management capabilities.
