The weather across the country has shifted significantly recently, impacting many people’s health. Rain has arrived in various regions during the winter season, leading to increased humidity in the air. This rise in humidity is contributing to more fog, colder temperatures, and a severe cold wave. In light of these changes, let’s explore the weather conditions across the country as predicted by IMD.
Most Northern state in grip of cold wave
If we talk about North India, then most of the states here are in the grip of cold wave. There is snowfall in the mountains.
At the same time, there is a rain alert in some areas of Delhi, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan. The cold has intensified due to rain since the beginning of this week. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain today as well.
After two days, the capital, Delhi, experienced a slight reprieve from the cold on Wednesday, with sunshine observed during the day. However, the Meteorological Department has forecasted partly cloudy weather for today, along with light rain expected in the evening.
During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rains with heavy falls at a few places were recorded over Odisha, according to Skymet Weather.
Light to moderate rains occurred over Andhra Pradesh, parts of Telangana, Rayalaseema, North Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh witnessed light rains.
Light to moderate rains and snowfall were recorded over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions were observed over parts of Himachal Pradesh.
Dense to very dense fog was observed over Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.
Cold wave in Punjab and Haryana
According to the Meteorological Department, cold conditions persisted in Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday with Faridkot recording the lowest minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius. Meteorological department officials said the weather remained clear across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon after two days of rain due to a western disturbance. According to the Meteorological Department forecast, the weather is expected to remain clear on Thursday before rains resume from December 27.
Water reservoirs frozen in J&K
The minimum temperature has dropped in most places in Jammu and Kashmir and severe cold continues in the valley, due to which many reservoirs and water supply lines in many areas have frozen. The weather office has forecast a drop of two to three degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature in Kashmir in the next two days. Except Gulmarg, a drop in temperature has been recorded in the Kashmir Valley. 'Chilla-e-Kalan' (period of severe cold) has started in the Kashmir Valley from December 21. There is severe cold during these 40 days.
Snowfall predicted in Himachal
Snowfall has also increased difficulties in the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh. Officials said that 226 roads, including three national highways, have been closed due to snowfall in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla district has the highest number of 123 roads, Lahaul and Spiti 36 and Kullu 25. Apart from this, 173 transformers were disrupted, affecting power supply across the state. The weather office has forecast rain and snowfall at isolated places in some parts of the state, especially Shimla, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
Dense fog, light rain in Rajasthan
Dense fog continued to cover many areas of Rajasthan on Wednesday as well. Due to which cold conditions persisted in the state. In the last 24 hours, light rain occurred at some places in eastern Rajasthan while dense fog prevailed at many places. The day remained cold at some places in western Rajasthan.
According to the Meteorological Center Jaipur, due to the activation of a new western disturbance from December 26, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in some parts of Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner divisions. The maximum effect of the western disturbance will be on December 27. Due to this, thunderstorms, rain and hailstorms are expected in some parts.
