Farmers' Punjab Bandh: Railways, roads blocked across state, many trains cancelled

During the Punjab Bandh on Monday, farmers' organizations blocked railways and roads, which had a widespread impact across the state.

Monday was the 35th day of the indefinite hunger strike by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and the farmers' organizations had called for this bandh to pressurize the government for fulfillment of their demands.

More than 100 trains canceled

On Monday, more than 100 trains, including goods trains, had to be canceled in the state. Almost all trains passing through the state were canceled.

Farmers also picketed almost all toll plazas in the state and closed them.

Highways remained closed

During the bandh, the Delhi-Jammu Highway and Ludhiana-Jalandhar Highway, which are considered busy, also remained closed.

The bandh also had a significant impact on businesses in the state and markets and shops remained closed at main places.

Meanwhile, BKU Ekta Ugrahan leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan said that farmer panchayats will be organized in Haryana and Punjab in the next few days.

Dallewal on hunger strike since Nov 26

Dallewal has been on a hunger strike since November 26 demanding a legal guarantee of MSP.

During the hearing on December 20, the Supreme Court had put the responsibility of Dallewal's health on the Punjab government and said that if necessary, he should be admitted to the hospital, but so far there has been no progress in this matter.

Two major farmers' organizations Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Apolitical) and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee marched to Delhi on 13 February 2024 with 12 point demands including making MSP a legal guarantee.

But they were stopped at the Haryana Punjab border. Since then the farmers have been protesting there.
