Champions Trophy 2025: The deadlock over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is over. It has become clear that India will not play its matches in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. That is, India will play all its matches at the neutral venues. This decision was taken in the ICC meeting.
Under an agreement, in all ICC tournaments to be held in India from 2024 to 2027, the Pakistan team will also play its matches at neutral venues instead of India.
After this agreement, the Pakistan team will play all the matches at neutral venues in the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup in India, the 2026 T20 World Cup to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. This agreement may also apply to the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup, which is the first tournament of the next event cycle and which has now been given to Pakistan. The neutral venue will be proposed by the host board of the tournament and will need to be approved by the ICC.
Earlier, when the ICC had proposed to the Pakistan Cricket Board to conduct the Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model, the PCB had also placed a condition before the ICC.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had said that they would accept this proposal but they would also play their matches at neutral venues during future ICC tournaments in India. Now the ICC has accepted this condition.
PCB also demanded a tri-series with India at a neutral venue
The Pakistan Cricket Board also demanded a tri-series with India at a neutral venue in the future. On this, the ICC said that it has no objection to a tri-series involving India, Pakistan and any other Asian full member nation (or any associate Asian country can be included to make it a four-nation tournament) provided that such tournaments are played at a neutral venue. The idea of such a triangular series has come as compensation for losing the hosting of India's matches in the Champions Trophy to be held next year.
Five matches of the Champions Trophy have been taken away from Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board has demanded compensation for this. ICC has accepted this demand as well. There has been no series between India and Pakistan since 2012, both teams have clashed only in ICC and Asia Cup.
