Jagjit Singh Dallewal: What Supreme Court Said In Its Order?

Jagjit Singh Dallewal: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today, Tuesday, 31 December, on the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 36 days at the Khanauri border. The Supreme Court has given 3 days to the Punjab government to admit Jagjit Dallewal to the hospital.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had held a hearing on 28 December. At that time, the Supreme Court had given time till 31 December to the Punjab government. Now the Supreme Court will hold the next hearing in this case on 2 January.

Today, on Tuesday, a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia heard the issue of deteriorating health of Jagjit Singh Dallewal. During the hearing, Punjab AG Gurminder Singh said that Punjab was closed on Monday, 30 December due to the farmers' movement.

The second argument given was that, if the farmer union intervenes, then farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal is ready to negotiate. During the hearing, the Chief Secretary and DGP of Punjab have sought three days' time from the Supreme Court to admit Dallewal to the hospital. After this the Supreme Court accepted the plea of the Punjab government seeking time.

SC expresses displeasure

During the last hearing, the Supreme Court had expressed displeasure at those farmer leaders who were not allowing Dallewal to be admitted to the hospital. The Supreme Court had said that 'preventing a sick person (Jagjit Singh Dallewal) from being taken to the hospital for treatment is a criminal act.'

The Supreme Court had ordered that Dallewal be persuaded, the Punjab Police tried a lot, but despite this Dallewal did not agree. On 29 and 30 December, retired ADGP Jaskaran Singh and senior officers of Patiala Police also talked to Dallewal but he did not agree.
