New Delhi: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that India's record regarding road accidents is so 'disturbing' that he has to hide his face in world conferences. While answering supplementary questions during Question Hour in the House, he said that despite all the efforts of his ministry, road accidents have not decreased, but have increased.
Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha today, "We need the cooperation of the people. Our behavior must change. People must have fear of law. Then only road accidents will be curbed."
Over 1.7 lakh people die annually

We have the dirtiest record (of accidents)." \\
Gadkari asked the MPs to make efforts at their level to prevent road accidents and organize awareness programs in schools etc. in collaboration with the Transport Department.
