Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed the government for the cremation of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.
He wrote on the social media platform X, "Bharat Mata's great son and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji has been insulted by the current government by performing his last rites at Nigambodh Ghat today. He was the Prime Minister of India for a decade. During his time, the country became an economic superpower and his policies still support the poor and backward classes of the country.''
He wrote, '' Till date, respecting the dignity of all former Prime Ministers, their last rites were performed at authorized Samadhi Sthals so that every person can pay tribute by paying last respect without any inconvenience.''
Rahul Gandhi wrote, '' Manmohan Singh deserves our highest respect and Samadhi Sthal. The government should have shown respect towards this great son of the country and his glorious community.''
Congress had demanded that Manmohan Singh's last rites be performed at such a place where his memorial should be built.
However, BJP has said that the decision to build a memorial has been taken in the Union Cabinet meeting and the Congress President and Manmohan Singh's family have been informed about it.
