Sambhal District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Pensiya has spoken to the media regarding the Shiv temple and the idols found in the well in front of it.
He said, "We have contacted the ASI for a scientific investigation. The well discovered near the temple is believed to be 400 to 500 years old. Yesterday, approximately 10 to 12 feet of excavation was completed, and today, after digging another 5 to 6 feet, a statue of Maa Parvati was uncovered, although its head was damaged. As excavation continued, two additional statues were also found."
"We will rebuild all the water bodies. Our team has been digging for the last two weeks and things are being recovered one by one. I request people to inform us if they find any ancient heritage. We will preserve everything for the future."
The district administration of Sambhal has written a letter to the ASI asking for carbon dating of the Bhasm Shankar temple and a well here. Carbon dating is used to find out the age of any object.
Three idols were recovered from the well near the Shiv-Hanuman Temple in violence-hit Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday morning. The temple had been sealed since the 1978 riots and was only reopened on December 14. The recovered idols included one of Lord Ganesh, another is believed to be of Lord Kartikeya.
Last month, violence broke out during the second survey of Sambhal's Shahi Jama Masjid. At least four people died in this violence.
