What Gukesh D said on becoming youngest world chess champion, PM Modi, MP CM Mohan Yadav greet


Indian chess player Dommaraju Gukesh has become the youngest world chess champion. Gukesh defeated China's Grand Master Ding Liren in the match played in Singapore for the World Championship.


India's 18-year-old Grandmaster D Gukesh defeated China's Grand Master in the 14th and final game.


Chennai resident D. Gukesh has created history by winning this title at the age of 18 years, eight months and 14 days. He surpassed the record of Garry Kasparov, who won the title at the age of 22 years, 6 months and 27 days. Prior to Gukesh, Viswanathan Anand of India (2000-2002 and 2007-2013) has been the World Chess Champion.


After becoming the world champion, Gukesh said, "We all know who Ding (Liren) is. He has been one of the best chess players in the world for many years. For me, he is the real world champion. He may not have been physically fit before coming to the championship, but he fought like a true champion in every game and I feel sorry for Ding and his team."


However, Gukesh's Chinese opponent Ding Liren has also made a record despite losing.


According to the International Chess Federation, Ding Liren took 18 minutes and 30 seconds to make one move. This is the longest time taken by any player till date.


After the defeat, Chinese Grand Master Ding Liren said, "During the match, I realized that I had made a big mistake. After this, I was completely shocked."

PM Narendra Modi today congratulated Gukesh D on becoming the youngest world chess champion. He hailed his feat as Historic and exemplary.


Responding to a post by International Chess Federation handle on X, Shri Modi said:


“Historic and exemplary! Congratulations to Gukesh D on his remarkable accomplishment. This is the result of his unparalleled talent, hard work and unwavering determination. His triumph has not only etched his name in the annals of chess history but has also inspired millions of young minds to dream big and pursue excellence.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that this historic achievement of Dommaraju Gukesh will continue to inspire countless Indian sports talents to bring glory to the country. CM Dr. Yadav has wished Shri Gukesh a golden and bright future.
