The BJP-led Mahayuti got overwhelming success in Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. After the announcement of the results, the issue of EVM is hot in the entire state. Opposition parties are accusing the BJP of winning the election by tampering with EVMs in connivance with the Election Commission.

How Markadwadi came into limelight?

Following the results, villagers of Markadwadi in Malshiras taluka tried to conduct mock voting through ballot paper. But, the administration did not allow it and an FIR was also registered against many villagers including MLA Uttam Jankar of NCP (Sharad Pawar), which is part of the opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA).

In protest against this, the opposition is running a movement against EVM in the entire state. Now, to support the villagers of Markadwadi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal and Uddhav Thackeray are going to Markadwadi.

On the other hand, BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and MLA Sadabhau Khot attended a meeting with EVM supporters in Markadwadi.
