6.9 strong quake rattles Japan's Kyushu region, Tsunami warning issued


Earthquake tremors were felt in Kyushu, Japan on Monday evening. The earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale struck the Kyushu region in southwestern Japan, the country's meteorological agency informed.


According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), its intensity on the Richter scale was 6.9. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 37 kilometers in the HyÅ«ga Nada Sea. This earthquake occurred at 9:19 pm (5:49 pm Indian time). So far no information has been received about any damage, injury or casualties.


Immediately after the earthquake, the agency has issued a tsunami warning for the coastal areas in Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures. According to estimates, the wave can be up to 1 meter. People living nearby have been appealed to stay away from the coast and go to higher places.
