First budget session of 18th Lok Sabha begins with address of President Droupadi Murmu, Nirmala Sitharaman to present Economic Survey


Budget 2025 Live Update: The first budget session of the 18th Lok Sabha is starting from Friday, January 31. This session began with the address of President Droupadi Murmu at 11 am. The President will address both the Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. 


Sitharaman will present Economic Survey


After this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey. This survey will present the current state of the Indian economy and the outline of possible policies. On February 1, the Finance Minister will present the first budget of the third term of the Modi government. This will be Sitharaman's eighth consecutive budget.


The first phase of the budget session will run till February 6. There will be no proceedings on February 2 as it is Sunday. From February 3 to February 6, the President's address will be debated in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. On February 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can respond to the discussion in the Rajya Sabha. During this, many important policy issues will be debated, which will indicate the priorities of the upcoming government.


Online education can be promoted


This time in the budget, there can also be some big announcements regarding the New Education Policy (NEP). The government is working on a plan to create digital universities across the country, so that online education can be promoted. Apart from this, there can also be a consideration on giving more scholarships for engineering and medical studies. There may be a provision of additional funds to open more schools in rural areas and increase digital facilities in them.


Priority for defense sector


In its third term, the Modi government is emphasizing on self-reliance in the defense sector under 'Make in India'. In this budget, funds can be increased for the production of indigenous weapons and military equipment. According to sources in the Ministry of Defense, new infrastructure projects can also be given a place in the budget to strengthen security on the border.


Special package likely for network of high-speed trains


The central government can make a big investment on the modernization of railways and expansion of high-speed trains. A special package may be announced to expand the network of semi-high-speed trains. Apart from this, thousands of crores of funds can be released to build new expressways, highways and logistics hubs across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana.
