ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Jasprit Bumrah may go to New Zealand for the treatment of his back. The BCCI medical team is in touch with New Zealand doctor Rowan Schouten who had performed surgery on Bumrah's back in 2023.
Bumrah has been selected in the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19. He has also been included in the team for the last match of the three-match ODI home series against England to be held on 12 February.
Changes can be made in the team for the Champions Trophy till 11th February. In such a situation, the selection committee can consider the names of Harshit and Mohammad Siraj for their backup. Harshit made his Test debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He took 4 wickets in 2 Test matches.
Decision will be taken based on NZ doctor feedback
The BCCI medical team will share Bumrah's report with the New Zealand doctor. Based on his feedback, a decision will be taken on whether he will play in the Champions Trophy. If needed, Bumrah will be sent to New Zealand.
However, BCCI has said nothing about Bumrah's fitness yet. Bumrah was injured during the fifth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He had a back problem. Therefore he was not selected for the T20 series against England.
