Jalgaon: A devastating train accident occurred on Wednesday in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, resulting in death and injuries to many passengers. The incident occurred at Pardhade railway station when a rumor about a fire on the Pushpak Express triggered panic among passengers.
As they leapt off the train in fear, many unknowingly moved onto an adjacent track, where the Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express was approaching at high speed.
According to reports, at least 12 passengers lost their lives after being struck by the Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express. Approximately 40 others sustained injuries in the chaotic aftermath.
Passengers couldn't see approaching Karnataka Exp
Officials from the Bhusaval division of Central Railway said the site of the incident featured a sharp curve, which obstructed visibility of the oncoming Karnataka Express. Passengers who had jumped off the Pushpak Express and landed on the other track were unable to see the imminent danger in time, leading to the tragic loss of life.
Smoke was seen coming from wheels of Pushpak
The panic spread when smoke was seen coming from the wheels of the Pushpak Express. The smoke reportedly resulted from the application of brakes, but it sparked a widespread rumor of a fire on the train. Alarmed by this misinformation, many passengers took the drastic step of jumping from the train in an attempt to save their lives.
The Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express (train number 12629) was en route from Yeshwantpur to Hazrat Nizamuddin at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the Pushpak Express (train number 12533) was traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai. The brakes applied on the Pushpak Express caused the smoke that triggered the chain of events leading to the accident.
