Political Turmoil Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections-2025: Rift in INDIA Alliance? Congress Sidelined as Akhilesh and Kejriwal Unite, What is TMC's stand

The political scenario in Delhi is heating up as the Delhi assembly elections-2025 approach. With the Election Commission announcing the election schedule, cracks have emerged within the INDIA alliance, leaving the Congress party isolated. Key partners like Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee have taken bold steps, signaling shifts in political alliances.

Akhilesh Supports AAP

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has declared support for Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi elections. On Tuesday, Akhilesh confirmed that his party will stand with AAP, not Congress, in their effort to challenge the BJP. He even expressed willingness to share the stage with AAP leaders. He emphasized that only AAP can effectively defeat the BJP in Delhi.

TMC also extends support to AAP

Following Akhilesh's announcement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) also extended support to AAP. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh expressed confidence in AAP’s ability to retain power in Delhi, stating that the BJP will face a complete wipeout in the region. The TMC’s endorsement further isolates Congress, raising questions about the party’s relevance in the INDIA alliance.

Congress Isolated

The INDIA alliance, formed as a united opposition bloc, now appears fractured. With both the SP and TMC rallying behind AAP, Congress finds itself sidelined. This development follows earlier tensions within the alliance, particularly over leadership disputes. Notably, after the Mumbai Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee had expressed a desire to take on a leadership role within the alliance.

Sandeep Dikshit slams Akhilesh’s decision

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit criticized Akhilesh Yadav’s decision to support AAP. He warned that such actions could lead to SP voters in Delhi shifting allegiance to Congress permanently. Dikshit also dismissed AAP’s chances in the election, claiming that voters are disillusioned with Arvind Kejriwal’s governance and remembering former Congress leader Sheila Dixit’s era.

BJP may leverage these internal conflicts

The division within the INDIA alliance could significantly impact the Delhi Assembly elections. While AAP may gain an edge with SP and TMC support, Congress’s weakened position could lead to a fragmented opposition. Meanwhile, the BJP might leverage these internal conflicts to strengthen its campaign.
