In a recent meeting at the Karnataka Congress office, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Congress party was ready to sacrifice a government, but not the party. Surjewala, who serves as the in-charge of Karnataka Congress and General Secretary of the AICC, addressed party workers and several ministers present at the gathering.
He likened the party to a 'mother' and the government to a 'child,' emphasizing that disappointing the party is not an option. Randeep Surjewala's comment is related to Home Minister G. Parameshwara and Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna.
DK Shivakumar's meeting was boycotted
In fact, Deputy CM and state Congress President DK Shivakumar had called a meeting, which was boycotted by the rest of the leaders led by these ministers.
Surjewala's comment is being linked to the recent developments in Karnataka when a meeting of ministers coming from SC and ST community was held.
This meeting is considered important in the sense that there is speculation in political circles that DK Shivakumar will soon replace Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister of the state.
In a few months, it will be almost two and a half years since Congress has been ruling Karnataka. Such speculations are being made since May 2023 that after two and a half years of rule, Siddaramaiah himself will make way for DK Shivakumar.
On January 8, a meeting of SC and ST ministers was called by the state Home Minister Parameshwara. It was officially described as a 'general dinner'.
Most Dalit MLAs are disappointed
It was agreed that discussions would be held with Dalit MLAs to understand their grievances. The significance of this meeting grew further when Siddaramaiah decided to participate.
A party MLA, on the condition of anonymity, said, "It is not only Parameshwara and Rajanna who are unhappy. Most Dalit MLAs are disappointed. This is no way to talk to us, especially when we want to discuss internal party matters. This has nothing to do with the leadership issue."
Along with him, two ministers, Zameer Ahmed Khan and B. Suresh, both staunch supporters of Siddaramaiah, also did not attend the meeting.
