TikTok resuming its services in US, what assurance Donald Trump gave to social media app?

The social media app TikTok is set to resume its services in the US after assurances from newly elected President Donald Trump. He said that upon taking office, he would issue an executive order to lift the ban on the app.

The company expressed gratitude to Trump, who had assured service providers that they would face no penalties for continuing to offer TikTok to U.S. users.

"We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers, who will face no penalties for continuing to provide TikTok to over 170 million Americans, and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive," said the company.

The TikTok app, has become a major platform for creators, businesses, and influencers across the U.S. However, it was facing an imminent shutdown as U.S. officials raised concerns about the security of Americans' data under the ownership of the Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

The app’s suspension was poised to become a reality as the U.S. government moved forward with legal action citing potential risks related to national security.

TikTok had stopped its activities in the US on Saturday. TikTok had to take such a step on the basis of the US law, which talked about banning the app citing national security. The US Supreme Court on Friday ruled in favor of the law banning TikTok.

Trump also said that he could give TikTok a 90-day exemption from the ban. In the past, Trump has been in favor of banning TikTok.
