UP Milkipur By-poll: Will Samajwadi Party continue its winning streak in Ayodhya or BJP turn the table? How both parties are strategizing?

The Election Commission of India today announced the Delhi Assembly elections. With this, by-election has been announced on the Milkipur seat in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh. Voting will be held on this seat on February 5 and the election results will be declared on February 8. Nominations will be filed from January 10 to 17.

Milkipur seat has fallen vacant after Awadhesh Prasad became an MP from Faizabad. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has already decided the son of Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad as the candidate. However, the BJP has not yet announced a candidate.

Samajwadi Party had given a big blow to the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Awadhesh Prasad, who was an MLA from Milkipur seat, defeated BJP in Ayodhya. The construction of Ram temple and the grand inauguration ceremony had taken place but the BJP could not benefit from all this and lost the election. Awadhesh Prasad was elected MP.

In such a situation, BJP is fully prepared to take revenge for that defeat. Therefore, Yogi Adityanath himself is monitoring the Milkipur assembly seat.

SP aims to retain its stronghold in Ayodhya

On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party aims to retain its stronghold in Ayodhya, which is why Akhilesh Yadav has nominated Ajit Prasad, the son of MP Awadhesh Prasad, for the Milkipur seat. This decision is strategic, as the Milkipur seat is reserved for backward castes, making them a key voting bloc. Awadhesh Prasad, who has previously served as an MLA for this seat in both the 2012 and 2022 assembly elections, is actively involved in strategizing for his son's campaign, leveraging his influence within the community.

Following the Lok Sabha elections, the Ayodhya seat is expected to be a focal point once again. The Samajwadi Party made inroads against the BJP during the general elections, but the BJP later regained ground by winning nine seats in the by-elections. Consequently, all eyes are now on the Milkipur seat as the political situation continues to evolve.
