Waqf Bill: What did Asaduddin Owaisi say on suspension of Opposition MPs from JPC meeting?

The suspended MPs have given their reaction following the suspension of ten opposition members for the day due to the uproar during the Parliamentary Committee meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Friday.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the national president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and MP from Hyderabad, said, "The Waqf Bill is a very sensitive issue."

He added, "If the government intends to push it through Parliament via the JPC, it will have serious legal repercussions and negatively affect a community."

Owaisi has claimed that the proposals being made for amendment in it are not being made to save the Waqf property, but to destroy it.

He said, "With great regret we have to say that the approach the BJP is taking is not appropriate. Whatever the government is doing is not in favour of Waqf."

Asaduddin Owaisi has requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to intervene in this matter.

On this, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "Even before this, opposition MPs have been a part of many JPCs and everyone has experience of the rules and procedures inside JPC."

He said, "But we have not seen such a JPC where 10 members have been suspended together."

Gogoi further said, "We saw in Parliament where 140 MPs were suspended on a single day, today we saw the same process in the Parliament committee."
