Why Kanhaiya Kumar is absent from Delhi Assembly Elections-2025

As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of the Delhi assembly elections-2025, leaders from various parties are busy in campaigning. However, former JNU Students' Union president and Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar appears to be distancing himself from the elections. While prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, and Ashok Gehlot are actively engaged in preparations, Kumar's absence raises questions among political analysts and party workers.

Lack of focus on Delhi polls

Kumar's recent social media posts reveal a lack of focus on the Delhi polls. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, he was nominated by Congress to run against BJP's Manoj Tiwari in the North-East Delhi constituency but faced defeat. This leads to speculation about whether his current disengagement stems from a closer alignment with Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal or internal dynamics within the Delhi Congress.

In 2024, Kanhaiya Kumar has made only four posts on social media, addressing various topics. His posts include commentary on a student protest against the Bihar Public Service Commission, criticism of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, a call for change in the upcoming elections, and a tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary.

Is Kanhaiya awaiting guidance from central leadership?

Kanhaiya Kumar's recent statements suggest a distance from Congress's campaigning in Delhi, particularly in the Purvanchal-dominated North East seat. This raises critical questions about his motivations: Is he stepping back due to internal party conflicts, or is he awaiting guidance from the central leadership?

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kanhaiya Kumar contested the Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai in Bihar on a CPI ticket. However, he lost to BJP candidate Giriraj Singh. There was talk of Kanhaiya Kumar contesting from Begusarai in the year 2024 as well. But, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav did not want him to contest.

In such a situation, Kanhaiya Kumar was made to contest from Delhi due to his closeness to Rahul Gandhi. However, Kanhaiya Kumar lost this election too. BJP leader Manoj Tiwari emerged victorious.
