There is a stir in the political corridors of Bihar as the picture of cabinet expansion in the Nitish Kumar-led government has almost become clear. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will administer the oath of ministership to the MLAs at the Raj Bhavan this evening. Concurrently, before the cabinet expansion, BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal has resigned from his ministerial position. These political decisions have been made following discussions led by BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda in recent days.
According to sources, in this cabinet expansion, seven ministers from the BJP quota are expected to take the oath of office and secrecy. Along with former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad, Raju Yadav's name is also being mentioned as part of the new ministerial lineup. Initially, it was reported that five new ministers would be appointed, with three from the BJP and two from JDU. However, it now appears that the fate of seven peoples is set to be decided.
Jaiswal Resigned
BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal has confirmed his resignation from the ministerial post. He explained his decision by stating that there is a "one person, one post" formula within the BJP. As he is currently the state president of the BJP, he felt it necessary to resign from the ministerial role. Jaiswal refrained from commenting on the timing of the cabinet expansion, stating that it is a matter for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to decide. He previously held the position of minister in charge of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department.
Bihar Cabinet Secretary S. Siddharth has arrived at the Raj Bhavan with a list of names for those who are to be sworn in as ministers. A total of seven ministers have been named in this list, which will be submitted to the Governor.
Potential Ministers
Among the names of potential ministers being considered for the Nitish cabinet expansion, Tarkishore Prasad, who served as Deputy Chief Minister in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government after the 2020 elections, is at the forefront. Other names in contention include Sanjay Saraogi, Raju Yadav, and Awadhesh Patel. Political discussions suggest that, in an effort to attract the Bhumihar vote bank, the BJP may also consider appointing either Anil Sharma or Jivesh Mishra as ministers.
