Incineration of Bhopal's Union Carbide toxic waste begins in Pithampur

The incineration of toxic waste from Bhopal's Union Carbide has commenced at the Ramki Enviro Factory located in Tarpura village, Pithampur. The waste was introduced into the incinerator around 3 PM on Friday, operating at an initial temperature of 900 degrees Celsius.

In the subsequent phase, the waste will be incinerated at temperatures ranging from 1100 to 1200 degrees Celsius. Following this, the material will undergo treatment in a gas flue dryer, where it will be processed with a solution of water and sodium sulfide. After filtration of the chemicals, the remaining ash will be securely buried.

Initial trial run aims to incinerate 10 tonnes of waste

Officials from the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Board, along with Dhar District Collector Priyank Mishra, SP Manoj Kumar Singh, and other authorities, are present to oversee the operation. The initial trial run aims to incinerate 10 tonnes of waste. Health department personnel, including two specialist doctors, are stationed outside the factory premises.

130 members of SAF deployed within factory area

To ensure security, 130 members of the Special Armed Force are deployed within the factory area, with DSP-ranked officers monitoring the site. Access to the company premises is restricted, with nearby roads blocked to prevent unauthorized entry.

Additionally, law enforcement from 24 police stations across Indore Rural and Dhar districts is managing security arrangements throughout Pithampur city, with approximately 650 officers positioned at various intersections, neighborhoods, and Tarpura village. Over 10 vehicles are conducting patrols throughout the area.

CM slams Cong

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav criticized the Congress party, stating that they are attempting to intimidate the public. Congress State President Jitu Patwari countered, claiming that the government is using the court as an excuse regarding Union Carbide's waste. He challenged local leaders and the administration to test the groundwater within a 10-kilometer radius of the Ramki facility for cancer-causing elements, promising to publicly apologize if none are found.

In response, CM Yadav highlighted the tragic history of over one million deaths in Bhopal due to Union Carbide's negligence. He asser0ted that the previous Congress administration failed to protect the public.
