Why broom is offered?
It is believed that a wealthy businessman was suffering from skin disease. Once he was going to get himself treated by a doctor, when he felt thirsty on the way. To quench his thirst, he went to an ashram. While going, he collided with a broom. At this time his skin disease was cured.
It is believed that his skin disease was cured by the touch of that broom. He offered gold and diamonds to the saint of that ashram, but the saint refused to take all this. The saint told him that it would be good if you build a temple at this place.
Following the advice of a saint, the businessman constructed a Shiva temple near the ashram, which has since become known as Pataleshwar Temple. Since its establishment, there has been a tradition of offering brooms at this sacred site.
