Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, who frequently makes headlines, is once again in the spotlight. Speculation is mounting regarding his potential departure from the Congress party, fueled by some of his recent posts and statements, although his next move remains unclear.
Last week, Tharoor shared a thought on X (formerly Twitter) that sparked discussions about his relationship with the Congress party. He quoted English poet Thomas Gray: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." This prompted discussions on social media, with many suggesting that Tharoor might be considering a shift to the BJP.
'You should not think that I do not have other options'
The speculation intensified when he indicated in an interview that he has "options" if his services are not needed by the party. He stated, "If the party wants to use (him), I will be available for the party. If not, I have my own things to do. You should not think that I do not have other options." He further mentioned his engagements, including books, speeches, and invitations to speak globally.
While Tharoor did not explicitly confirm any plans to join another party, his recent comments have led to assumptions about a possible alignment with the BJP. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with President Donald Trump during Modi's visit to the US, describing it as very good. However, he also said that Modi should address the treatment of illegal Indian immigrants being sent back to India.
He praised India's interest in buying the F-35 fighter aircraft. He said that this aircraft is very expensive. But unlike Tharoor, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had condemned the interest in buying this aircraft.
Surjewala had said, "Why is Narendra Modi hell-bent on buying the F-35 which Elon Musk has called 'junk'."
On Tuesday, he posted a selfie with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds on social media.
'Some people in my own party oppose me'
During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he had said that this would be his last parliamentary election.
Regarding the dispute within the party, Shashi Tharoor told that 'some people in my own party oppose me but I speak for the future of India and Kerala.'
However, Tharoor says that he is loyal to the Congress and if needed, he wants a bigger role in the party.
It has been told in many media reports that Shashi Tharoor has recently met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and it has been described as a good meeting.
What he said about joining BJP?
Congress MP Tharoor said he will not BJP and said that the reason for this is ideological differences. He said, every party has its own beliefs and history. If you cannot accept their beliefs then it is wrong to go to that party.
Will Shashi Tharoor marry again?
On the question of marriage, Tharoor said, 'Not at all. I have gained a lot of experience in life. I have been single for the last 10 years.' The Congress MP also said that his mother is asking him to get married, but he is happy with the current situation. Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar passed away in January 2014.
