US President Donald Trump on Saturday gave permission to impose a 25 percent tariff on goods imported from Canada.
In response to his decision, Canada has also indicated plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on the United States.
In response to Canada, on Sunday, President Trump wrote in a post on his TruthSocial account that America does not need anything from Canada.
He wrote, "We pay hundreds of billions of dollars to subsidize Canada. Why? There is no reason behind this. We do not need anything they have."
"We have unlimited energy, we should make our own cars. We have more timber than we can use. Without this subsidy, Canada will not be able to survive as a capable country."
Trump said, "That's why Canada should become our 51st state, where there will be very low taxes for them, much better military security for the people and no tariffs."
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference on Sunday that Canada would also impose tariffs in response to the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.
