A devastating road accident occurred on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway, resulting in the deaths of 10 devotees from Chhattisgarh who were going to Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The collision involved a Bolero vehicle carrying the devotees and a bus returning to Varanasi.
The accident took place late Friday night in the Meja area, where the devotees, hailing from the Korba district, were on their way to bathe in the sacred Sangam. About 19 people sustained injuries, with several critically hurt. The injured have been rushed to the district hospital for urgent medical care.
Upon learning of the incident, local authorities, including the police, rushed to the scene to assist. The deceased were taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem examinations, and investigations into the accident are ongoing.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief over the tragic event, extending condolences via social media. He has instructed district administration officials to ensure that all injured persons receive prompt and adequate medical treatment and has conveyed wishes for their swift recovery.
